Dean’s Letter

Our Faculty provides one of the finest learning centers in Lebanon for graduate and undergraduate education in Administrative Sciences. We offer Master degree (Masters of Business Administration), as well as Bachelor degrees, namely:
• Bachelor of Business (Accounting, Human Resources Management, Management, and Marketing)
• Bachelor of Computer Science (Computer Science and Information Technology)
• Bachelor of Management Information Systems (Management Information Systems, and Health Management Information System).
The faculty also provides reputable centers for computer science research, covering a diverse area as information and data management. The achievements and accomplishments of our faculty and students have been widely acknowledged through high-profile awards and recognitions, including Lebanese Ministry of Telecommunication, L’Institut National des Postes et Télécommunications (INPT) -Morocco, Nice Sophia Antipolis University, University of Calgary, International Association of Universities, Advances in Social Networks Analysis and Mining, American University in Greece, Lebanese Universities’ League, Lebanese University, and European Organization for Quality.
As I welcome you to our Faculty, I emphasize our commitment to the highest levels of excellence in both teaching and research, and our unyielding mission to further the reach of Administrative sciences as it continues to impact our world in positive and profound ways.

Vision

The main vision of the staff members of the faculty is to make the Faculty of Administrate Sciences a center of scientific and technological excellence nationally and internationally and serve the community as they stride towards this goal.
The Vision Statement for our Faculty is an indication of what it aspires to be. In crafting its vision the Faculty recognizes that the world is changing rapidly and that higher education should change with it. Specifically, the Faculty strives for the vision needed to successfully lead in a system of higher education that is rapidly redefining itself to meet the challenges of a changing student population, shifting globally driven market forces, increasingly complex technologies, rising costs, and eroding state fiscal support. At the same time, the faculty recognizes that the contributions made by science the welfare of society will play an increasingly dominant role in the future.
First and foremost the Faculty aspires to the highest standards of excellence for student learning and performance. Key to this vision is the following characteristics. First, Education should be viewed as a fusion of classroom teaching and hands on research with faculty mentors who actively engage students. The intricate mixing of teaching and research is viewed as the greatest strength of the Faculty. Its powerful educational effectiveness comes from linking facts, theory, inquiry, discovery, and solutions to real world problems. The most important goal of research in the Faculty is the education of undergraduate students. Second, realizing that economic constraints do not allow us to be “all things to all people”, the Faculty will be recognized for high quality undergraduate and graduate education that strives for distinction by developing specialty areas in the sciences. These specialty areas will result from the integration of faculty interests and local, regional and state priorities. Third, the educational programs, led by a highly skilled and dedicated faculty, will engage and challenge students to achieve their fullest intellectual potential, mastering skills such as critical thinking, communication, and quantitative analysis. Students will also be provided with the latest knowledge and technical expertise that are needed in today’s job market. Fourth, the Faculty is committed to continuous improvement of its instructional programs through a policy of rigorous, data-based, systematic assessment.
The Faculty aspires to the highest standard of excellence in scholarship. The Faculty will be recognized by its peers for excellence in the creation and dissemination of new knowledge that directly benefits the region, state, and nation. To achieve its vision of excellence in both teaching and research, the Faculty aspires to the teacher-scholar model, where faculty members are effective skilled teachers, understand how students learn, integrate teaching with research, and are committed to the creation of new knowledge for its own sake and its application to solving problems. Active cross-disciplinary collaborations and partnerships with centers of excellence abroad encouraged and viewed as essential to the teaching-research mission of the Faculty

Mission

Our Mission is to advance education’s role in the well-being of people and communities. The Faculty of Administrative Sciences (FAS) adheres to the purposes of advancement of all good knowledge, skills, and education of youth in all manner of good literature, and sciences; and all other necessary provisions that may conduce to the education of the youth of this country.
FAS strives to generate knowledge, to open the minds of students to that knowledge, and to enable students to take best advantage of their educational opportunities. To these ends, the Faculty encourages students to rejoice in discovery and in critical thought; to pursue excellence in a spirit of productive cooperation. The faculty seeks to identify and to remove restraints on students’ full participation, so that individuals may explore their capabilities and interests and may develop their full intellectual and human potential. Education at FAS should liberate students to explore, to generate, to challenge, and to lead. The support the faculty provides to students is a foundation upon which self-reliance and habits of lifelong learning are built: FAS expects that the scholarship and collegiality it fosters in its students will lead them in their later lives to advance knowledge, to promote understanding, and to serve society.

 

Business Administration

Business Administration curriculum consists of 10 standard courses that comprise the core of the major, common to all different focuses. The focus is composed of 9 specialty oriented courses in the chosen field. In this respect, a student has the freedom to choose his focus after he finishes all Sophomore requirements. Each of the following ten core courses is 3 credits: Accounting, Introduction to Management, Accounting 2, Managerial Finance, Micro Economics, Introduction to MIS, Macro Economics, Operations Research, Business Law, introduction to Marketing.

The student has the freedom to choose one of four focuses after joining the program: Human Resources Management, Management, Marketing or Accounting. More focuses will be easily added in the future in this flexible system. The graduate actually owns skills in general administration and has a specialty as well, all in 3 academic years. If the student wishes to pursue multi- disciplines, it will take him one more year to earn another focus.

MIS serves to cater for two types of jobs. Health Management Information System

HMIS is the study of how health data are collected, stored and communicated; how those data are processed into health information suitable for administrative and clinical decision making; and how computer and telecommunications technology can be applied to support these processes. Students learn to identify the type of data needed by doctors, nurses, hospital administrators, government planners and other health care professionals and how they are used in order to make effective health care decisions. It is a profession which is at the heart of the modern health care delivery system. The Health Information Officer is a professional who functions as a member of the health care management team, and is responsible for developing information systems, collecting health care data, analyzing the information, and disseminating it to appropriate areas. The complex duties of a professional Health Information Administrator demand management skills of a high level. The graduates need to develop good organizational and system skills and excellent interpersonal relationships and the ability to supervise and motivate people. Our program aims to produce outstanding Health Information Officers who will contribute to the advancement of the practice of Health Information to the optimum benefit of patients, hospitals and Ministries of Health.
